Swimming, tennis baseball and softball will compete

Like the weather, the Taft sports scene will be heating up over the weekend and into next week with a series of events in Taft.

The action will start Friday afternoon when the junior varsity and varsity baseball teams host former league rival Tehachapi with each playing a single game at 3:30 p.m. At the same time, Lady Wildcat freshmen, junior varsity and varsity softball teams will be taking on Ridgeview at the Franklin Field Complex in a doubleheader.

On Saturday, the junior varsity and varsity baseball teams will host Golden Valley at 10 a.m. While the baseball teams will be playing, the Wildcat Invitational will be held at 10 a.m. The freshmen softball team will be holding a tournament starting at 9 a.m.against Foothill on the varsity field. The Lady Wildcats will again play against Frontier at 12:20 p.m. and 3:40 p.m. At noon the youth bowling league will be taking place at the Rec.

Taft's varsity boys tennis team will also be in action this weekend this weekend with the Lynch Cup in Bakersfield.

The boys golf team will open next week by hosting West and Highland and Buena Vista Golf Course at 1 p.m. Taft’s baseball and softball teams will open the South Sequoia League season a day later when they travel to Arvin. On Wednesday, the teams will host Arvin. Both games start at 4 p.m.
