Taft golfers win first SSL mini tournament
- Wildcats win with a round of 444
Every team has their share of goals and hopes over the course of the season.
The Taft boys golf team accomplished both Thursday afternoon when they won the South Sequoia League mini tournament at North Kern Golf Course in Bakersfield.
“Our team played our best golf yesterday at the North Kern,” said Taft coach Mike Goodwin. “Our early team goal was to break 450 as a five man team score.”
Taft as a team won the tournament with a round of 444.
Shafter was second with a score of 480 while Bakersfield Christian was third with a score of 487.
Individually, Toby Taylor had the lowest score of the day for the Wildcats with a 79. Tanner Leikam followed with an 85 while Eli Kindred chipped in with an 89.
Both shot their career tournament lows. Nick Pommerville shot a 92 while Sorensen had a 99. McCostlin rounded out the scoring with a 102.
The Wildcats remain second in the league standings with 20 points. Bakersfield Christian is first with 24 points. Shafter is in third place with 16 points.
“We are in second place in the SSL after two events and we are improving weekly,” said Goodwin.
