  • Three arrested in drug sweep ordered to stand trial

  • The three suspects arrested on illegal drug dealing charges during a drug and probation sweep in Taft last month have been ordered to stand trial on felony charges.
    All three have pleaded not guilty.
    Thomas Vega, 45, was arrested at 119 Adkisson Way early Feb. 23 and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession controlled substance paraphernalia and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
    Taft Police said they seized more than two ounces of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $6,000 at the Adkisson Street home.
    He was held to answer on all 3 counts at a preliminary hearing held Tuesday in Taft Branch of Kern County Superior Court.
    Vega is being held on $45,000 bail.
    He is scheduled to be arraigned on March 28 in Bakersfield.
    Tammie Waldie, 45, and Debra Montez, 52, were both ordered to stand trial on charges of possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.
    A charge of maintaining a residence to sell drugs against each woman was dismissed for insufficient evidence, court records show.
    Waldie and Montez were arrested at 701 Buchanan Apt. C.
    Officers said they found 1.7 grams of heroin and several prescription opiate pills, including oxycodone and methadone.
    Both women are free on $15,000 bail.
    They are scheduled to be arraigned on March 21.
    Seven other people were arrested on a variety of charges during the drug and probation sweep with 35 officers from several law enforcement agencies participating.
