  • Man to stand trial for threatening to burn house

  • Defendant faces 9 felony counts, including attempted arson, child endangerment

  • A Derby Acres man arrested earlier this month after he allegedly threatened to burn his house down with his own child inside was ordered to stand trial on those charges and a total of nine felony counts in three separate case Wednesday in Taft Branch of Kern County Superior Court.
    William Jones III, 24,  was held to answer on charges of attempted arson, willful cruelty to a child, threatening with intent to terrorize and two counts of possession of stolen property in connection with his arrest on March 4.
    Kern County Sheriff's deputies arrested Jones after they responded to a reported domestic dispute in the 23000 block of Arnold Avenue.
    Sgt. Martin Downs said Jones had poured gasoline around the otside of the house and was threatening to burn it down with a child still inside.
    He was also breaking the windows to the home.
    Jones was arrested at that time.
    Deputies noticed several items in the yard that were subsequently linked to a truck stolen earlier from KSI Construction that was found burned in a remote area between Derby Acres and McKittrick and added the stolen property charges.
    Jones was pout on bail for a Feb. 6 arrest for  possession of stolen property and a Feb. 19 arrest for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.
    He was also ordered to stand trial in those cases as well.
    Jones has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
    He is scheduled to be arraigned on March 29.
