Taft scores all nine runs on first day of tournament play
A couple of days after a tight victory at home and a change in scenery, the Taft varsity baseball team came to life on the first day of the Fowler Tournament Saturday when they shut out Dos Palos 9-0.
With the victory, Taft improves to 13-1 overall.
“Our hitters jumped on the sophomore from Dos Palos early,” said Taft coach Anthony Reed. “Even our outs were hard hits.”
Taft got off to a roaring start by scoring four runs in the first inning. The Wildcats followed with a couple of runs over the next few innings.
Offensively, Trenton Taylor and Anthony Rodriguez led the charge by going 2-for-4. Taylor also had two runs batted in while Rodriguez had one.
Kyle Adkins was 1-for-2 with two runs batted in.
Rodriguez threw five innings while striking out five batters. Steven Gee pitched the final two innings striking out four batters.
After a day off, Taft continued the tournament action Monday and Tuesday.
