Taft College got both solid pitching and timely hitting Saturday to earn a 7-2 Central Valley Conference victory over visiting Reedley College.
That win gave the Cougars a best two-out-of-three series over the Tigers heading into spring break week. TC will take a few days off from action before heading south to play Mt. San Jacinto in a pair of non-conference games – Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
Kevin Little and Brandon Van Stone combined to keep Reedley hitters in check and Travis Tessandori continued his hot hitting as the Cougars improved to 4-8 in the CVC and 7-14-1 overall.
Little, a freshman from Kern Valley, worked the first five innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking one as he evened his record at 2-2.
Van Stone, a freshman from Las Vegas, got his first save of the season by limiting the Tigers to just one hit. He struck out two and did not walk a batter.
Tessandori once again led the Cougars at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. He’s currently hitting .356.
Luis Trinidad, who is hitting .325, went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs.
Roman Testani also had two hits and an RBI and Shane Sudsbury had a double and RBI.
Leading 3-1 after four, the Cougars broke it open with four runs in the fifth by combining hits from Testani and Tessandori with two walks, two hit batters and a Reedley error.
