A graveside funeral service will be held in the West Side District Cemetery on Thursday,
March 28, 2013, at 1:00 p.m., for longtime Taft resident, James D. Winters, “J.D.”, 94. Mr.
Winters was born in Monroe, Louisiana on October 28, 1918 and passed away in Bakersfield
on March 24, 2013. He had lived in Taft since 1941. He was a member of First Baptist Church
and was employed as a mechanic with Chevron Oil Co. for 35 years. He was preceded in
death by his parents, John and Ruth Winters and his sister, Dale Cheaney. Mr. Winters is
survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara Winters of Taft; his daughter, Sharon Brudenell also
of Taft; his granddaughter, Monica Brudenell-Lachance and her husband, Chris Lachance of
El Segundo; his great-grandchildren, Zachary and Gabrielle of El Segundo; his nephews and
their wives, Timothy and Wanda Johnson of Bakersfield and Phil and Lois Cheaney of Lake
Charles, LA. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
and again on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home.
