A father and son face criminal charges after their target shooting missed the mark and some of their bullets struck an oil rig working in the Fellows area.
Thomas Jacobson, 45, and his son, Justin Jacobson, 20, were both arrested Sunday
The two were both charged with being felons in possession of firearms and reckless discharge of a firearm after several shots they fired struck a rig working on Chevron property in the 4500 block of Midoil Road Sunday morning, Sgt. Martin Downs said.
Deputies received a report at 10:54 a.m.that Nabors employees on a Chevron lease near entrance No. 23 on Midoil Road heard about 10 gunshots then heard two or three bullets hitting their rig.
The employees were on a break a short distance from their rig when they heard the gunfire.
Deputies responded and a Chevron employee followed a Chevy Tahoe that left the area.
Taft Police were also called and they made contact with the suspects at the McDonald's at Tenth and kern.
Investigation led to the discovery of a .22-caliber rifle and a .308 rifle in the vehicle., Downs said.
The men were arrested at the scene.
Downs said deputies believe they were target shooting when their bullets struck the rig.
