Beloved daughter, sister, wife and mother Gertrude Nina Mittnacht Reed,
89, of Grover Beach, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2013.
The daughter of German immigrants, Anton and Franciska Mittnacht, she was born in Coalinga, CA and was the youngest of six children. She attended elementary school in Coalinga, but the family later moved to
Bakersfield where she graduated from Kern County Union High School in 1941. Upon graduation, she worked as a secretary at Kern General Hospital.
“Gert” was preceded in death by her loving husband, Denver Reed in 1991.
They met and married in 1943 during WWII. Denver was in the US Army Air Corps and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.
After the war, he was employed by Exxon Mobil and they made their home in McKittrick for many years. In 1982, they retired and moved to the central coast where they lived in their final home in Grover Beach.
“Gert” is survived by her daughter, Betty Reed of Grover Beach; one sister, Molly Provost of Nipomo; and many nieces and nephews.
At her request, no service will be held. Cremation and private sea inurnment has taken place.
