Holmes' lawyers had reportedly offered to plead guilty in exchange for prosecutors agreeing to not seek the death penalty. Holmes is charged with multiple counts of murder and attempted murder after opening fire in a crowded movie theater in Aurora, Colo.

More than 220 people have been rescued after two ice floes broke off of the Latvian coast, stranding those standing on them in the Gulf of Riga, CNN reports. The ice had been attached to the shore, where fisherman and walkers were enjoying the sunny day. All 181 people stranded on the larger floe were recued by boat, while 42 of those trapped on the smaller floe were evacuated by helicopter. One person on the smaller flow refused to be rescued by helicopter and remained on the floe to wait for a boat.
