  • Cougars start final swing Thursday with home game

  • Just seven games remain in the regular season for Taft College’s softball team.
    Five of them are at home beginning with Thursday’s game against Porterville College.  First pitch at the Al Baldock Cougar Sports Center is at 2 p.m.
    Next week, the Cougars host Reedley in a Tuesday doubleheader and College of the Sequoias Thursday in a single game.
     They play at Fresno twice on April 16 and host West Hills in the regular season finale two days later.
    The Reedley twin bill is a crucial outing for the Cougars.  The teams are tied for second place in the Central Valley Conference.
    Heading into this week the standings look like this: Fresno 8-1 (21-6 overall), Taft 7-4 (16-17), Reedley 7-4 (16-15), Sequoias 6-4 (21-8), Merced 5-5 (12-17), Porterville 2-7 (10-16) and West Hills 0-10 (0-29).
