It was the first home game for the Taft junior varsity baseball team in a couple of weeks. They celebrated their return by defeating the Cesar Chavez Titans 13-2 last Friday afternoon.
“As a team we hit .430,” said Taft coach Kevin Guinn. “You can’t ask for much more.”
With the victory, Taft improves to 14-4 overall and 4-0 in the South Sequoia League.
Scoring was quiet for the Wildcats early with a run in the first, three in the second and one in the third inning. Taft picked up the pace with four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cap their run. Meanwhile, the Titans were held to a run in the second and one in the fourth.
Alex Guzman and Cain Roberts each were 3-for-4 with three runs in the game. Roberts also had a pair of doubles and a run batted in while Guzman had six runs batted in. Colt Niblett, Matt Osborne and Noah Parsons each were 1-for-3 with Osborne scoring two runs while Niblett had one.
Will Moore was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one run batted in. Josh Tiger, Oscar Nuno and Jason Jones each were 1-for-2 with Nuno scoring a run.
Jeremy Wilmer Tevin Howell each were 1-for-1with Wilmer getting a run batted in.
Parsons tossed two innings allowing a hit, an earned run, a walk while striking out five batters. Moore pitched the final five innings allowing a hit, an unearned run, four walks while striking out 11.
Taft returns home Tuesday to face Shafter. The game begins at 4 p.m.
