Taft College moved into second place in the Central Valley Conference softball race last Thursday with a 3-2 home win over Porterville College.
The Cougars moved to 8-4 in the CVC and evened their overall record at 17-17 heading into today's home doubleheader against Reedley (7-5). TC will host College of the Sequoias Thursday at 2.
TC scored it's first run in the third when Tuiai Elisara beat out an infield hit, Peyton Buen walked and Stephanie Keith cracked a line drive single down the left field line.
The Cougars missed a chance to do more damage when they mishandled a squeeze attempt and the runner was thrown out at the plate.
Taft took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on Venise Elisara's leadoff double, a sacrifice and an error and hiked it to 3-0 in the fifth on hits by Brooklyn Amador, Kelina Nakai and Venise Elisara.
Head coach Stefanie Walsh wanted to give her two starting pitchers work so she took out Cheyenne Emerson in the sixth, but the Pirates scored twice off Jessica Neher on two hits, a walk, wild pitch and error. Emerson came back into the circle to get a strikeout and two fly ball outs.
