Harmer goes 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs as 'cats improve to 6-0 in SSL, 17-2 overall

Days after winning their first game back from spring break, the Taft varsity baseball team was looking to get another sweep in league play when they took on the Cesar Chavez Titans at home.

In the end there was no question after the Wildcats shut down the Titans 6-0 at home.

With the victory, Taft improves to 17-2 overall and 4-0 in the South Sequoia League.

"Our hitters continued to make good adjustments at the plate and compete," said Taft coach Anthony Reed.

Taft did all of their scoring over a three inning stretch when they scored two runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and two runs in the sixth inning.

Jeremy Harmer was 2-for-3 in the game with both of the hits coming on a pair of doubles. Harmer also had two runs batted in.

Harmer was not the only Taft player with two hits. Espinoza also was 2-for-3 with one run batted in while Miguel Rodriguez was 1-for-3 with a run batted in.

Trenton Taylor tossed a complete game two hitter while striking out eight batters. With the win, Taylor improves to 3-0.

"It was great for Trenton Taylor to come back after a bad outing in the Easter Tournament and pitch like we all know he can," said Reed. "He had a great curveball and he showed some confidence today throwing it in any count."

Taft returns home Tuesday when they host Shafter. The game begins at 4 p.m.
