1941 – 2013

A graveside funeral service will be held in the West Side District Cemetery on Friday, April 12, 2013,

at 10:00 a.m. for Taft resident Joy Darlene Long, 71. Pastor Joey Pittman of New Hope, A Place to

Connect, will officiate. Darlene was born in Wetherford, Oklahoma on June 15, 1941 and, surrounded

by family, went to be with the Lord on April 6, 2013 in Bakersfield. Darlene had worked in the

cafeteria at Taft Union High School for over 20 years. She was a long time member of New Hope

Temple and was a true prayer warrior. She enjoyed traveling and exercising with her best friend and

sister, Deanna. Her pride and joy was her son and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her

husband and family. She was preceded in death by her Mom and Dad, Faye and Leroy Severe and

her brother, Donald Severe. Darlene leaves behind her beloved husband of 51 years, Walter "Bud"

Long; her son and his wife, Rick and Karen Long; three grandchildren, Lacey O'Neill and her husband,

Rocky, Lindsey Long and Ricky Long; two great-grandchildren, Rilynne and Aria; her step-son and

his wife, Frank and Cheryl Long and their five children;her sister and her husband, Deanna and Joe

Geiger; and her nieces and nephew, Tammy, Tressa and Joseph Geiger. There are no visitation hours

scheduled and the arrangements are under the direction of the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home. To
