The Taft junior varsity softball team nearly mirrored the varsity squad Tuesday afternoon when they defeated the Shafter Generals 13-0 in Taft.
“We played great defense and we hit the ball very well,” said Taft coach Ashley Morris. “I am proud of the girls and how they played tough against a good team.”
Vanessa Uribe led the charge by going 3-for-3 with two singles, a double, a run batted in and three runs scored. Katie Evans, Josey Burke and Cheyenne Rogers each went 2-for-3. Evans had two doubles and two runs batted in while Burke had a single and a homerun with a run batted in and two runs. Rogers had a single, double and two runs scored.
Kyndal Harmer and Sierra Holmes each were 1-for-3 with Holmes getting a double, run batted in and two runs scored. Harmer had a single and a run batted in. Krysten Davis was 1-for-1 with a double and two runs batted in. Bethany Fitzsimmons and Allison Milner each scored a run while Milner had a run batted in.
As a team, six of the Lady Wildcat batters combined for 17 hits, seven runs batted in and 10 runs scored.
Evans threw five innings allowing four hits while striking out three batters.
Taft returns to action Friday when they travel to Shafter. The game begins at 4 p.m.
