'Cats scoreless for first three innings but rally for 3-1 win over Shafter
The Taft High baseball team survived a scare Friday evening when they pulled out a 3-1 victory over the Shafter Generals in Shafter.
Taft improves to 6-0 in the South Sequoia League with the victory
Taft had opportunities to score in the second and third innings but came away empty handed both times.
The Wildcats finally broke through in the top of the fourth inning starting with Austin Pendergrass' single to left field. Pendergrass stole second before scoring on a single.
The Wildcats doubled their lead in the sixth inning with a walk, a sacrifice bunt and a single. Steven Gee added to the Wildcat lead in the seventh with a walk. He eventually scored on a passed ball.
Shafter got its only run in the bottom of the seventh inning with a hit batter, wild pitch and single to end the no-hitter and shutout bid.
