The half way point of the South Sequoia League season has arrived and the Taft junior varsity baseball team has showed no signs of slowing down after defeating the Shafter Generals 13-1 in Shafter Friday afternoon.
With the victory, Taft improves to 16-4 overall and 6-0 in league play.
After they scored a pair of runs in the first inning, the Wildcats opened the floodgates with three runs in the second and four in the third and sixth innings.
Cain Roberts led the charge for Taft by going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three runs batted in. Matt Osborn was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, two runs batted in along with a double and triple.
Will Moore and Noah Parsons each were 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Moore also had a triple in the game. Alex Guzman and Oscar Nuno each were 1-for-4 with Nuno knocking in a run.
Tevin Howell and Colt Niblett each were 1-for-3 with a run batted in. Howell also had a triple and a run scored while Niblett scored two runs. Jason Jones was 1-for-1.
Howell threw four innings of the game allowing a hit and a run while striking out four batters. Nuno tossed the final three innings, giving up two hits, two walks and striking out five batters.
Taft returns home Tuesday to face Wasco. The following Thursday both teams will hook up again in Wasco. Both days the games will start at 4 p.m.
