  • ARVIN — The Taft High varsity boys’ tennis team beat the Arvin Bears, 8-1, on Friday there. Arvin did not field a JV team.
The Bear’s No. 1 player, who finished fourth in the league last year, Mario Cabaloza, beat Chuy Gutierrez, 6-3, 6-2.
It was all Taft after that. Rafa Arreguin beat Nicho Hernandez, 6-2, 6-1.
Cristo Miranda beat Miguel Lopez, 6-3, 6-2. Cameron Bunch beat Erik Moreno, 6-1, 6-1. Brayan Herrera beat Ahmad Ikram, 6-1, 6-2. And, Isaiah Sharp was the first one off the court, shutting out Rafael De La Cruz, 6-0, 6-0.

Bunch and Herrera beat Ikram and De La Cruz, 6-1, 6-1. And, Kyler Fields and Oscar Martinez won by forfeit when Arvin could not field eight players. They beat Moreno and Christian Vargas in an exhibition match, 6-2, 6-0.
Taft improved to 17-3 overall and 9-1 in the South Sequoia League. Arvin dropped to 9-11 overall and 2-8 in the SSL.
