Just a couple of days after shutting out the Shafter Generals at home, the Taft varsity softball team did again Friday afternoon when they handed the Lady Generals an 11-0 loss in Shafter.
“We hit the ball very well,” said Taft coach Russell Emberson. “Overall, the girls played good defense and came out to play.”
With the victory, Taft improves to 15-6 overall and 6-0 in the South Sequoia League.
Taft started their run in the top of the first inning with three runs before adding two more in the second inning. Following a run in the third, the Lady Wildcats scored two more in the fourth and three in the fifth to cap their rally.
The Lady Wildcats were helped out during their outburst when Shafter committed six errors.
Mikaela Davis and Haylee Tracy helped lead the charge by going 2-for-3 with a double. Tracy also scored two runs.
Caitlyn Emberson also helped the offense with a 2-for-2 performance including three runs scored, four runs batted in and a home run. Her home run was a three run hit in the top of the first inning.
Halle Neher was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Meghan Clark and Jana Gaehl each went 1-for-1 with Clark scoring a run and driving one in.
Corie Evans was 1-for-4 with a run batted in. Johanna Wilke, Mary Pezer and Winter Martin each scored a run in the game.
In regards to the pitching, Evans tossed a complete game four hitter while striking out six batters over the course of five innings. One of the hits Evans gave up was a double.
“Corie threw a very good game for us,” said Emberson.
Taft returns to action Tuesday when they host Wasco. Both teams will hook up again Thursday in Wasco.
“Big games for us this week,” said Emberson. “We have Wasco and they are doing well.”
Both games begin at 4 p.m.
