Freshmen boys finish fourth while varsity boys finish ninth
The Taft track and field boys and girls team got a tuneup for their home meet this Saturday when they competed in the George Olsen Invitational last Friday in Coalinga.
As a team, the Wildcats finished ninth with 29.5 points.
The highest finish among the varsity boys came in the field events where Jose Moron finished second in the high jump with a mark of 5-04. Eric Bailey was third in the shot put with a mark of 41-00. Roy Allen was 10th with a mark of 36-05.
In the track events, Lopez was fifth in the 1600 meter race with a time of 4:59.78. Lopez also was sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.54.
Levi Flud was fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 44.60. Moron was eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.62.
As a team, Taft finished fourth with 65 points. Coalinga was first with 97.5 points.
Zack Kolb had the highest finish in the track events for the Taft freshmen boys by coming in second in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 48.48. Kolb was also fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 20.05.
Arturo Delgadillo was fourth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 50.11.
Zack Gable won the pole vault with a mark of 9-00 while Jamil Iakopo finished in a tie for second with Kings Christian’s Caleb Borling. Both had a mark of 8-00.
Kolb was second in the triple jump with a total of 34-01. Jordan Williams was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 38-06.50.
As a team, Taft finished 13th with eight points.
Abby Xancale had the highest finish by coming in fifth in the varsity 1600 meters with a time of 6:15.15. Jennifer Chamale was 10th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 58.68.
In the field events, Jacqueline Summers was 11th in the shot put and discus with marks of 29-04 and 77-02. Taylan Erro was seventh in the high jump with a jump of 4-02. Karina Amaya was sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 30-01.25.
