Trees are being planted and trail should be ready Friday. Lights will be installed later
Take a hike and explore the newest section of Rails to Trails.
Trees are being planted this week on the walking path west from Hillard Street and the Trail should be ready for public use on Friday, City Manager Craig Jones said.
The half-mile stretch of trail has pavement and is now going to be lined by trees, but the city lacked the funding to plant shrubs and grass.
There will be no lights at first, Jones said. The lighting will be installed as city crews have time.
The quarter-million dollar project was delayed after the city had to rebid the project when the initial bids came in over the estimated cost.
The city had to remove the old railroad ties in the path before rebidding it.
