Lady Wildcats sweep Wasco

Sometimes it only takes two innings for a team to set the tone of the game. The Taft junior varsity softball team did just that Thursday afternoon by defeating the Wasco Tigers 14-3 in five innings in Wasco.

With the victory, Taft improves to 15-2 overall and 8-0 in league play.

Taft did most of their scoring in the second and fourth inning when they put up five runs in each inning. The Lady Wildcats also scored two runs in the first and third innings. Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers scored all three of their runs in the last half of the first inning.

Josey Burke led the offense by going 4-for-4 with a run scored, two runs batted in and a double. Cheyenne Rogers was 3-for-3 with a run batted in and a double while Bethany Fitzsimmons was 3-for-4 with four runs scored, four runs batted in along with a double and homerun.
Kyndal Harmer was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, two runs  batted in and a triple. Vanessa Uribe and Katie Evans each were 2-for-4. Uribe also had two runs batted in while Evans scored a run, knocked in two runs and had a double.

Bailey Vega and Sierra Holmes each were 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Evans pitched five innings allowing four hits, three runs (two earned), a walk and seven strikeouts.

Taft had the same outcome a couple of days earlier when they defeated the Lady Tigers 11-1 at home.

The Lady Wildcats scored most of their runs in the fourth inning with eight.

Fitzsimmons was 2-for-4 with a run and two runs batted in. Harmer, Burke and Rogers each were 2-for-3. Harmer also had two runs scored while Rogers and Burke each scored once. All three had a run batted in. Holmes was 2-for-2 with a run scored while Rosenberger and Vega each were 1-for-3 with a run scored. Rosenberger also had a run batted in.

Evans and Rosenberger had three stolen bases during the game while Burke and Rosenberger each had a double. Fitzsimmons chipped in with a triple.

Evans threw five innings allowing seven hits, a run and a walk while striking out seven batters. Nearly seventy two percent of her pitches were strikes.

Taft returns to action Tuesday when they host Bakersfield Christian. The game begins at 4 p.m.
