The Taft junior varsity baseball team continued their cruise control through the league schedule Thursday afternoon thanks to a 16-1 victory over the Wasco Tigers.
“(It) was a very good game all around,” said Taft coach Kevin Guinn. “And excellent hittitng from the whole team. There were no errors on the defense.”
With the victory, Taft improves to 18-5 overall and 8-0 in the South Sequoia League.
In terms of scoring, the Wildcats started off small with two runs in the first inning and three runs in the second inning.
Taft’s offense picked up the pace in the third inning with four runs before scoring two runs in the fourth.
The Wildcats put the final touches to their outburst with five runs in the fifth inning.
Colt Niblett led the charge on offense by going 3-for-3 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and two runs batted in. Tevin Howell was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four runs batted in. Will Moore was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a run batted in and a double.
Matt Osborn was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a run batted in and a double.
Alex Guzman, Cain Roberts and Oscar Nuno each were 1-for-3 with each scoring a run. Roberts also had a run batted in. Noah Parsons was 1-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in and a double.
Christian Palacios, Cameron Anderson, Anthony Martin, Jason Jones and Andrew Wade each were 1-for-1. Wade, Anderson and Martin each had runs batted in while Palacios, Anderson and Jones each scored a run.
Niblett pitched a third of an inning with Parsons pitching an inning while striking out three batters. Moore threw three and two third innings allowing a hit, a run while striking out four batters.
Taft will look to continue their run Tuesday when they host Bakersfield Christian. The game begins at 4 p.m.
