The 4-way stop sign at Tenth and San Emidio streets should be installed by the end of the week.
Taft City manager Craig Jones said Griffith Construction, the contractor for the project, anticipates starting to paint on stripes on the newly-paved roadway and it is likely the four-way stop will be installed then.
Large lighted message boards will be posted along Tenth Street warning traffic of the new stop sign.
The four-way stop has been sought for years by Taft Union High School officials and others.
They point to the large numbers of students who cross Tenth street, plus all the foot traffic to the soccer and baseball fields on the west side of Tenth Street where JFL and soccer teams practice and play games.
