A Taft man who was convicted of stealing a truck when his car broke down after a burglary at the Buena Vista golf Course was sentenced to a 5-year prison term this week.
James Brian Swope, 46, pleaded no contest to burglary and auto theft charges on March 27, two weeks after he was arrested following the theft of a computer and golf clubs from a shed at the golf course.
Deputies investigating the theft found a car nearby and inside it were items taken during the theft.
They were then called to investigate the theft of a truck from a residence located a short distance away on Golf Course Road.
Later, deputies saw a ma, later identified as Swope, back at the car that had broken down.
He was arrested, and deputies found the keys to the stolen truck in his pocket, according to reports at the time.
A short time later, the stolen truck was located in Maricopa.
Swope was also fined $500.
