A graveside memorial service will be held in the West Side District Cemetery on Wednesday, May

1, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. for longtime westside resident, Irma Lee Whitney, 75. Mrs. Whitney was born

in Conway, Arkansas on February 4, 1938 and passed away at her home in Valley Acres on April

24, 2013. She was raised and educated in Maricopa and was a member of the Maricopa High School

graduating class of 1956. Her husband, Vernon, had served in the US Navy which led Mrs. Whitney to

become a member of the American Legion. She was an avid bowler and has bowled a 300 game. She

is also listed in The Bowlers Hall of Fame. She was an excellent quilter with many family members

and friends benefiting from her talent. She enjoyed golfing, camping and all of the outdoors and was

also known as a “Happy Gambler.” She had worked as a clerk at the Daily Midway Driller for several

years. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Minnie Smith; her husband, Vernon

Whitney in 1992; and her brother, Gayle Smith. Mrs. Whitney is survived by her children, Russell

Whitney of Taft, Tina Edwards of McKittrick and Lisa Anglin of Taft; her grandchildren, Dawnelle

Edwards, Brandon Edwards, Ashlee Plunkett and Arron Whitney; her great-grandchildren, Creedence

and Caidan Plunkett and Bryson Edwards; her brother, Mitchell Smith of Arkansas; her sister, Joan

Edwards of Bakersfield; and by several nieces and nephews. There are no visitation hours scheduled

and the arrangements are under the direction of the Erickson & Brown Funeral Home. To express
