A lawsuit was filed Tuesday against the Taft Union High School District on behalf of shooting victim Bowe Cleveland and his family.
The suit, filed in Kern County Superior Court in Bakersfield, seeks both documents and damages in connection with the Jan. 10 shooting that critically injured Bowe Cleveland.
The suspect, Bryan Oliver, has been charged with attempted murder.
Attorney Daniel Rodriguez is representing the Cleveland family.
He filed a claim in late January as required by state law and the district rejected the claim.
A key question that has come up that is central to the shooting case is the existence of an alleged hit list that Oliver is said to have compiled and whether or not school officials had knowledge of the hit list, if it existed.
Oliver, 16, is accused of carrying a shotgun up to the second floor of the science building and shooting Cleveland.
He threatened to shoot another student but surrendered the gun and was subdued by teacher Ryan Hebert and campus security officers Kim Fields and Mary Miller.
