The Taft junior varsity softball team took time out from their busy league schedule Saturday to host a doubleheader. The break did not slow them down after they defeated Monache in both games.
With the two victories, Taft improves to 19-2 overall and 10-0 in league play with one week left in the season.
Taft got off to a roaring start by defeating Monache 18-2 in the first game.
Katie Evans led the charge by going 3-for-3 with three runs scored, five runs batted in and a home run. She also doubled in the second inning and singled in the third.
Vanessa Uribe was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Bethany Fitzsimmons, Cheyenne Rogers and Brinley Rosenberger each were 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Fitzsimmons also had a run batted and a stolen base while Rosenberger had two runs batted in.
Allison Milner and Josey Burke each were 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Burke also had four runs batted in, two stolen bases and a grand slam. Milner had a run batted in.
Sierra Holmes was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in while Kyndal Harmer was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in.
Evans threw five innings allowing four hits two runs (both earned) and two walks while striking out nine batters. Sixty five of Evans pitches were strikes.
The game was much closer in the second game with Taft pulling out a 3-1 win.
Rosenberger led the offense by going 2-for-2 with three runs batted in and a double. Burke was 1-for-2 with a run scored while Rogers was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Uribe also scored a run.
Evans threw three and a third innings while giving up a hit, a run and two walks while striking out five batters. Krysten Davis pitched the final three and two third innings allowing three hits and two walks while striking out two batters.
Taft kicks off their final week today when they host Robert F. Kennedy in their final home game. The game begins at 4 p.m.
