Another suspicious house fire broke out in South Taft Wednesday afternoon, damaging a vacant home on General Petroleum Avenue.
The fire was reported just before 4 p.m. and knocked down a short time later.
Emergency dispatchers also received several witness reports of a possible suspect seen leaving the area about the time the fire broke out, Battalion Chief Brent Moon said.
As firefighters were still responding to the fire, which was located at 500 General Petroleum between Stevens and Buena Vista, law enforcement officers were alerted to search the area.
KCFD arson investigators were also sent to the scene.
Moon said the house was vacant but still had utilities hooked up.
There were few belongings in the home.
Damage was estimated at $5,000,
It is the latest in a string of suspicious fires that have hit homes in South Taft since early February.
Three houes on Montview – one occupied, the other two vacant – and another on General Petroleum have been hit.
One of the vacant Montview homes burned twice.
