She reigned for years as Katherine Chancellor on "The Young and the Restless" and was inducted into TUHS Hall of Fame in 2009
Jeanne Cooper, who was born and raised in Taft and went on to become one of the great stars of daytime television, has died.
She was 84.
Cooper was famous for her portrayal of Katherine Chancellor in the CBS soap opera "The Young and the Restless, " a role she continued for more than four decades.
Her fame was such that she even has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Cooper was awarded 10 Daytime Emmy nominations, nine for outstanding lead actress and one for outstanding supporting actress, and two Primetime Emmy nominations.
She won the 2008 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and received lifetime achievement award from the Daytime Emmys in 2004.
Cooper was inducted into the Taft High School Hall of Fame in 2009.
She is the mother of actor-filmmaker Corbin Bernson, who shot much of his feature film "25 Hill" in the Taft area and drew o his memories of visits to Taft as a young boy.
