Temperatures fall to the 70s for the second half of the week, then warm up for the Memorial Day weekend
The weather is going to turn windy Tuesday afternoon and cool off for much of the rest of the week.
Winds gusting to 30 miles per hour are expected in the Taft area starting this afternoon and continuing into the night.
There will be areas of blowing dust, the National Weather Service advised.
It will be even windier in other areas.
The NWS has issued a wind advisory for the Kern County Mountains and deserts for gusts of up to 50 miles per hour.
That includes Highway 33 over Grocer Grade, Highway 58 to the east and Interstate 5.
The winds will also usher in much cooler air.
After a high on Tuesday near 92, the weather will cool to the the 70s through Friday with overnight lows getting much cooler, possibly dropping in to the upper 40s early Thursday.
For the Memorial Day weekend, more seasonable temperatures are expected with highs near 80 on Saturday and warming a few degrees each day with a high of 84 expected on Monday.
