Lady Wildcats will take on Liberty Thursday afternoon

The No.2 seeded Taft varsity softball team is looking to do something they were unable to do last year. In order to do that, the Lady Wildcats will have to hit the road when they take on the No.1 seed Liberty Madera Ranchos Hawks in the championship round of the CIF-CS Division IV Thursday afternoon in Madera.

Taft and Liberty nearly have the same record. The Lady Wildcats were 25-6 overall and 12-0 in the South Sequoia League while Madera was  24-6 overall and 9-1 in the North Sequoia League.

The Lady Wildcats will be stepping away from their home field where they were 12-0 this season. However, Taft is 6-0 on the road. Meanwhile, Liberty is a perfect 11-0 at home.

Both have played a common opponent this season. Madera defeated Chowchilla, who is in the same league as the Lady Hawks, twice by scores of 7-1 and 4-1. The Lady Wildcats just defeated Chowchilla Tuesday 5-0 in the semi final round of the playoffs.

Liberty and Taft have another thing in common. Both teams reached the championship game last year. Taft lost to Fowler 1-0 in the Division IV game while Liberty Madera Ranchos defeated Selma 10-0 to win the Division V championship game. The victory, was the Lady Hawks fourth striaight Division V title according to the school’s website.

“Liberty Madera is a good team,” said Taft coach Russell Emberson.  “We got to show up and bring our A game.”

The game begins at  4:30 p.m.
