Richard was born in Van Buren, Arkansas on February 8, 1935 and passed away in Bakersfield on May 26, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Steward; their three children, Kathy Dixon and her husband, Richard, Lance Steward and David Steward and his wife, Shawn; his five grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, Jozie, Emily and Abel; his sister, Patricia Lewis; and his brother, Randy Steward. Richard retired from Chevron in 1990 after 33 years of service at which time he and Dorothy moved to Oklahoma where he enjoyed 22 years of retirement doing everything he wished. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish and ride motorcycles. He was a member of both the Taft Sportsmen's Club and Taft Motorcycle Club. He spent many hours watching NASCAR and cheering for Jeff Gordon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Richard's name to the West Kern Oil Museum. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the home of Sherry and Felix Bravo, 305 Van Buren St., Taft.
