Shake came from 4.8 quake near Santa Barbara

If you felt a little bit of a jolt at 7:38 a.m., it probably came from an earthquake on the California coast near Santa Barbara.

Several people felt earth move in Taft

The United State Geological Survey reported a 4.8 quake 5 kilometers west of Isla Vista. It was originally rated at 4.6 but later the intensity was upgraded slightly.

That put it 12 miles west of Santa Barbara along the coastline.

The quake occurred at a depth of 7.4 kilometers (about 4 miles) below the surface.

There were no immediate reports of damage.

The quake was followed a few minutes later by a 2.6 temblor in the same location.
