Structure fully engulfed when firefighters arrived just after 3 a.m.

An overnight fire destroyed a garage in Taft.
The fire was reported at 3:02 a.m. at 425 Warren Street and the structure was totally involved when firefighters arrived, Kern County Fire Battalion Chief Brent Moon said.

Three Kern County Fire Department engines from Taft, Maricopa and Fellows and a truck from Taft responded to the fire.
The garage was destroyed, and a car parked in a carport across the alley sustained minor damage, Moon said.

There was no damage to an occupied house on the property.
The cause is under investigation.

Damage is estimated at $30,000.

Moon said the fire should serve as a reminder to people to keep their alleyways clear and do not let combustible items and weeds accumulate on or near their property.
