Waiczis resigned on May 29 after less than 1 year on the job

The city of Taft is looking for a new planing director after Mike Waiczis suddenly resigned at the end of May.

City Manager Craig Jones confirmed Monday that Waiczis resigned the position he had held for less than a year.

No reason was given.

“He basically just resigned,” Jones said.

City Hamn Resources Director Lonn Boyer said the resignation was effective May 29.

The city has already hired an interim planner, Jones said, and is “actively recruiting” a full-time replacement for Waiczis.

Boyer said the planner, Mark Staples, is working part time for the city on an interim basis and has been briefed on the ongoing projects and issues the city is dealing with.

Boyer said the city hopes to hire a full-time planning director within 90 days.

The interim city planner was at work this week.

“He's here today,” Jones said Monday. “He's off and running.”

Waiczis was hired in July 2012.
