Special program is the first in a summer-long series of events.

 The first special program in the Taft branch Kern County Library's “Reading is So Delicious” summer lineup is coming up Thursday afternoon.

Omnipresent Puppet Theater will present the children's classic “Hansel and Gretel” at 2 p.m. in the Cougar Room at the Taft College Library.

The special programs will continue each Thursday afternoon from through July 2.

Young and old alike will enjoy these free shows, which are sponsored by the Kern County Friends of the Library, the Westside Friends of the Library, and the Taft College Library.

The reading program will alos offer special rewards to children who read more than 10 books of their choice in June and July.

The rewards include a free paperback book provided by the Kern County Friends of the Library, a coupon for a free Auntie Anne’s pretzel, a ticket for free admission to Legoland, and a coupon for free admission to a Condors hockey game.

Children who are not yet readers can participate by having stories read to them.

Reading Records will are available at the Taft Branch.

In addition, the Taft Branch will offer Summer Storytime every Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for 3 to 8 year-olds and their families.
