  • A Taft man was arrested on weapons charges after a report of a domestic dispute led to the discovery of a stolen handgun, Taft Police say.
Sgt. Ray Buford said officers were called to 201 Warren Street Tuesday evening to a reported domestic disturbance.
When they arrived, they contacted Jason Jay Mobley, 39, and conducted a search because they knew he had a history of weapons violations, Buford said.
The search led to the discovery of methamphetamine smoking pipes.
A search of his vehicle resulted in officers finding a Smith & Wesson .44-caliber revolver with four loaded shells, two more meth pipes and a syringe, Buford said.
Officers determined the gun was stolen from Bakersfield, Buford said.
Mobley was then placed under arrest for several weapons violations plus a charge of child endangerment, since the officers determined the gun and other items were being kept in the house where a child could get access, Buford said.
Mobley is being held on $75,000 bail and is charged with possession of stolen property, carrying a stolen, loaded firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a loaded firearm with a prior felony conviction, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and possession of controlled substance paraphernalia.
