Suspect accused of lewd and lascivious acts with girl in 2012

Assault with a deadly weapon charges have been dropped against two men arrested last week, but one of the suspects still faces child molesting and other charges.

The felony assault charges filed against Secundino Flores, 23, and Efrain Velasco-Palacios were dismissed Tuesday morning in Kern County Superior Court, according to the court website.

No reason for the dismissal was immediately available.

Flores was in the process of being released from custody Tuesday morning, but Velasco-Palacios is still being held without bail.

He is charged with 3 counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor in a case being investigated by the Taft Police Department. He is scheduled to appear in court for his first hearing on June 27.

That case came to light on June 6 when an 11-year-old girl told officers she was molested by the suspect several times in the fall of 2012.
He was arrested by deputies four days later.
Velasco-Palacios is also charged with driving without a license and resisting arrest, plus was remanded into custody for a felony vandalism conviction earlier this year.
He is also being held on a no-bail hold from the United States Border Patrol.
