Only on of two defendants pleads no contest to one charge. All charges against codefendant dropped

Most of the charges filed against a two South Taft residents arrested on drug dealing charges in June were dropped Monday in Kern County Superior Court.

Only one of the defendants now faces any charges, and all felony drug trafficking counts were dismissed.

No reason for the dismissals were given.

Four counts filed against Gerri Cabella, 44, including possession of a controlled substance for sale and keeping a house to sell or furnish narcotics, were dropped at the pretrial hearing Monday,

A second defendant, Alex Vasquez, 43 pleaded no contest to one felony count of keeping a place to sell a controlled substance and three other counts were dismissed.

Vasquez is scheduled to be sentenced on July 29.

He is being held on $25,000 bond.
Cabella and Vasquez were arrested by Kern County Sheriff's deputies on June 17 when they conducted a probation search at a South Taft home.
