Violators face fines up to $1500. It's illegal to misuse "safe and sane" fireworks, too
The Kern County Fire Department, along with local law enforcement agencies from throughout the county, will be conducting strict enforcement of fireworks laws this Fourth of July holiday in an attempt to reduce the number of injuries and loss of property due to the use of illegal and altered "safe & sane" fireworks.
In 2012, the task force issued 54 citations and 24 by station personnel.
The Fireworks Task Force hotline received 658 calls.
There is a $1500 fine for the possession, sale, transport of illegal fireworks and a $500 fine for improper use and sale of safe & sane" out side the usage hours.
The KCFD said that legal fireworks may be sold only from noon to 11 p.m. on July 1, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 2-3 and from 6:a.m. July 4 to 12:01 a.m. on July 5.
Legal fireworks may only be discharged from noon to 11 p.m. on July 1, from 9 a.m. to 12:01 a.m. on July 2-3 and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. on July 4.
In addition to fines, criminal charges may be filed.
