Suspect also accused of hitting man with chair at home in Maricopa

A man was arrested on attempted murder charges after he choked a woman into unconsciousness and then struck a man over the head with a chair in Maricopa early Saturday morning.
Deputies arrested James Leroy Taylor, 23, on the attempted murder charge plus assault with a deadly weapon, battery on a person causing serious injury and vandalism.

He is being held in Kern County jail on $625,000 bail.

Sgt. Martin Downs said the suspect apparently became upset after being told to leave a party in the 500 block of South Kern Street about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Witnesses told deputies Taylor became enraged.

"They told him to leave and he just went crazy," Sgt. Martin Downs said.

The woman who was choked was 30 years old.

The man struck by a chair was 21.
Neither victim required hospital treatment.
