  • Woman rescued after being overcome by heat

  • A woman conducting environmental studies was apparently overcome by heat north of Taft Tuesday morning and was rescued by Kern County firefighters and Oxy Elk Hills personnel.
    According to reports from the scene, medical aid and Kern County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to an area off Highway 119 north of Elk Hills gate 2 just before11 a.m. for a report of woman overcome by heat.
    The temperatures in Taft was 105 degrees at the time.
    The victim, a 26-year-old woman, was located on the west side of Highway 119 about a mile to a mile-and-half north of Gate 2 and was accessed by a four-wheel drive vehicle.
    The victim was conscious and able to talk but unable to walk, according to radio reports from the scene.
    She was treated then transported to a hospital by Hall ambulance.
