On a day when most people were looking for ways to escape the triple digit heat, the Taft Tigersharks swimmers found the perfect solution mixed in with a little bit of success by competing in a swim meet Saturday at Rio Bravo Greeley.
Cooper Golling led the charge by winning three races. Gollings’ first victory came in the six year old boys 50-yard freestyle where he edged out Gunter Golla in time with a 49.96 to Golla’s 50.12.
Golling’s second win was in the 25-yard backstroke with a time of 33.10 while his final win was in the 25-yard butterfly where he had a time of 27.47.
Along with his victories, Golling also finished second in the 25-yard backstroke with a time of 26.64.
Golling was not the only swimmer to have multiple wins.
Alex Toro was first in the 12-year old boys 50-yard freestyle and the 50-yard backstroke with respective times of 31.72 and 38.59. In the freestyle race, Toro edged out Rio Bravo Greeley’s Christian Foster who had a time of 31.89.
Presley Golling won the 10-year old boys 100-yard IM with a time of 1:30.76 while Ruby Stith won the 15-18 year old girls 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 39.50.
Golling also finished second in the 50-yard freestyle and the 50-yard backstroke with times of 33.78 and 42.69. He also had a time of 48.56 to finish third in the 50-yard freestyle.
Besides her victory, Stith also was second in the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:18.37 and third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 30.93.
Cherise Strong had a time of 1:21.84 to finish third in the 11-year old girls 100-yard IM. Strong was also sixth in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time off 43.83.
Brooke Ashmore was fourth in the nine year old girls 100-yard IM with a time of 1:39.94. Ashmore was also fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.69.
Julie Heimiller was eighth in the 11-year old girls 100-yard IM where she had a time of 1:32.78.
Taft swimmers have a week off before returning to action next Saturday when they compete at Garces High School in Bakersfield.
