  • It doesn't matter how many games a team plays in a tournament, it only counts how many times that team wins. The Taft senior division team proved that point Saturday by winning the District 61 title in two games.
In the morning game, Taft did their run scoring early by putting up five runs in the first inning thanks to four hits. They would score six more times in three innings to win the first game 11-5.
The start was different in the second game with Buttonwillow striking first in the top of the third inning for a run. Highlighted by Cameron Anderson's double, Taft bounced back in the bottom of the third inning to tie the score.
Buttonwillow regained the lead one last time in the fourth inning when they erupted for three runs led by Weston Watson's two run double.
Taft equaled that total one inning later when they put up three runs while sending eight batters to the plate. The team did one better in the fifth by scoring four runs while batting around.
Buttonwillow threatened to add a run in the sixth inning but were unable to score a run. Taft followed up with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal the victory.
