Team falls to host Arvin 8-1

The Taft 11-12 year old all-star team was still recovering from the holiday Friday night after falling to Arvin 8-1 on the first day of the all-star tournament in Arvin.

While Arvin upped their score late in the game, it was a pitcher's duel through the opening two innings of the game between Taft's Abel Urias and Adam Garcia.

Arvin ended the duel in the third inning when they scored two runs on two singles, three walks, a pair of passed balls and a wild pitch. After Arvin added a run to their score in the fourth, Taft got one of the runs back in their half of the fourth highlighted by Urias' single to left field.

However, Arvin erupted four five runs in the sixth inning by sending 11 batters to the plate on three singles, two walks and a two base error.

Taft had a chance to get back into the game in their half of the sixth inning by loading the bases with two outs. Despite the opportunity, Taft was unable to score another run.

With the loss, Taft plays Buttonwillow in the losers bracket today at 5 p.m. If they win Taft will play Sunday at 5 p.m.
