Fresh off their opening game victory, the Taft 9-10 year olds all-star baseball team tasted their first loss Sunday night after Arvin defeated Taft 10-5 in Buttonwillow.
Arvin made the first move by scoring two runs in the first inning and three in the second.
Taft broke through in the fourth inning with a walk, a double and a passed ball to score two runs. Arvin countered with two runs in the fourth to take a 7-2 advantage.
Highlighted by Manny Chavez's two run single, Taft bounced back with three runs to get within three. However, Arvin countered with three runs in the fifth to seal their victory.
By losing, Taft was sent to the loser's bracket where they will square off again against Delano in Buttonwillow today. The game begins at 7 p.m.
If they win, Taft will face Arvin again Tuesday in the championship game.
