Two representatives from Fourth District needed for ceremonies
The Kern County Heritage Commission is seeking volunteers to serve on the ceremonial board.
The commission includes 10 people, two from each of the five supervisoral districts in the county.
Fourth District supervisor David Couch is looking for two people to represent this part of the county.
Here is the county's official description of duties for the commission:
"The Kern County Heritage Commission shall ring the Liberty Bell on Lincoln's Birthday, Washington's Birthday, Loyalty Day, Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, California Admission Day, Veteran's Day and any event of special significance deemed appropriate by the Board of Supervisors and the Heritage Commission. The Commission shall secure interested organizations to conduct the ceremonies appropriate to the occasions with a member of the Commission or his designate to be present and responsible for ringing the bell."
Commission members ar not paid, but they are reimbursed for necessary travel expenses.
The Kern County Heritage Commission meets four times a year on the first Wednesday of March, June, September and December.
