The Taft 9-10 year olds saw their all-star tournament run come to an end Monday night when Delano held on to defeat Taft 15-14 in Buttonwillow.
Delano made the first move by scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Taft bounced back to tie the game in their half of the inning, but Delano countered with three in the second inning while Taft was held to one.
After Delano extended their lead in the top of the third with four runs, the game tilted into Taft's favor in the bottom of the third when they erupted for 10 runs thanks in part to five walks and two errors and leadoff singles by Brock Mizener and Mike White. The difference gave Taft a 13-9 advantage.
Taft threatened to add to their lead in the fourth but came away empty handed.
The score remained the same until the sixth inning when Delano turned the tables by scoring six runs while sending 12 batters to the plate.
Taft made an attempt to win the game in their final at bat thanks to a hit batter and a two base error to score a run but it was not enough.
